A few new photos to see the progress of Windy the Windrush 4

A new tyre and a paint job on the caravan

Looking good for an old rotten caravan just a few weeks ago

The front still needs a bit of a spruce up

The Wheels are off and scrubbed and painted

Windy - A caravan restoration project - part 4

Windy - A caravan restoration project - part 4
A quick visit to Windy to take a few photos to show the progress this weekend.
The back window sill is now covered in new wood and a neat plastic strip and the sides are painted and it's all beginning to look more respectable.
The small bathroom has been painted and a new curtain, which was made from an old tea-towel has been hung.
The front window has been stripped back and found to be sodden, but basically will be ok when it's dried out.
In 2 weeks the intention is to take Windy out for a test run and 2 day weekend holiday. Doubts are setting in whether the van will be ready in time.
This week the tyres are being replaced and the wheels will be de-rusted and cleaned up.

More photos next weekend.

The curtain used to be a tea towel

The linoleum will be replaced soon

New curtains and a simple tie-back for now

The window sill is wet but not rotten and will dry out soon

This wheel needs a bit of a scrub up.
Come back next week for more photos

Alton Towers - Why is everything so expensive?

Another trip to Alton Towers and this time I'm moaning about the price of the after photo rides. £8 for a simple photo or have a deal and get a £12 saving and get several photos for only £25. Yes only £25.
We noticed that you can download your photos for only £2. Perfect, I'd pay that. Oh no, you need to buy a £8 photo to qualify for the cheap download. I didn't see any photos being sold all day long. Crazy business model. If you could get a £2 download I would have bought loads, maybe 1 for every ride. But I'm not paying £8 as a minimum.

We looked at sweatshirts £23, baseball caps £8.  Don't get me started on the drinks prices!
End of rant.

Windy - A caravan restoration project - part 3

A few more photos of the back section of Windy.
After the boarding went up it started raining and of course it started leaking.
The boards came off and the hole was found and sealed and then it became watertight.

You can see the back shelf and white edging strip have been replaced

The insulation is put back into place ready for the final board to be put on in the next photo

The side is sealed up

The sewing begins

Windy - A caravan restoration project - part 2

So, the project continues with part 2.

A bit of a delay occurred when the caravan key was lost, but luckily the key number was previously written down, so a spare could be found at Stuart Longtons in Chorley. It cost less than £2 and works better than the original.
The back window sill and surrounding woodwork is quite rotten in places and needs to be cut back and new wood cut and put into place to make it sound again.
A quick trip to the diy shop and £30 later and the wood is ready to be installed. So far the project has cost only £50 over the original buying price, so the budget is on track.

A bit of unscrewing

A bit of sanding and blowing

New wood and plastic edging strip

How heavy is that in new money? About 990kgs = 19.5cwt

Ripping some of the shelf out

Nailing the new back window sill into place

We used a hairdryer to soften the black rubber strip to get it back in the track

All glued and clamped.
Next week we intend to have finished the back panels and can start on the front panels.
